Inside The Artist’s Retreat: A Best in American Living Award Winner

Modern mountain home at dusk featuring warm wood and black metal siding, floor-to-ceiling windows, and multiple decks, glowing from interior lights against a dramatic cloudy sunset sky with pine trees in the background.

We're proud to share that The Artist's Retreat has received a Silver Award from the National Association of Home Builders, recognized as a Best One-of-a-Kind Custom Home.

A modern, spacious kitchen and dining area with large windows, wooden floors, black chairs around a light wood table, pendant lights, and minimalist decor in neutral tones.

Located in Breckenridge, the home was designed around a Scandinavian-influenced approach. The clients combined two lots to create a long plan centered on main-level living, stepping down to a walk-out lower level that follows the natural grade.

Stained wood and standing seam metal clad a series of gable volumes. Expansive windows pull in consistent daylight and frame the surrounding trees, giving each space a distinct feel that shifts with the time of day.

These clients came in knowing how they wanted to live. That clarity made the collaboration straightforward and productive. We worked together to refine the layout, expand the primary suite, and ensure the home supports both everyday life and time with family and guests.

Modern living room with large windows, forest views, plush seating, a checkered rug, wooden tables, and neutral, earthy tones. Natural light fills the open, airy space, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

The project has also been featured in Mountain Living and PEAK Magazine. You can explore the full project on our website.

Awards like this one mean more when the work behind them reflects a strong relationship and a shared vision carried all the way through. That’s what this one was.

If you're thinking about building, we'd love to start the conversation.
